On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am writing to share an important leadership update and to express our deep gratitude for your continued partnership with and investment in our mission.  After many years of faithful, visionary service, our Executive Director will be transitioning into the honorary role of Director Emeritus. This transition marks a meaningful milestone in the life of our organization—one that both celebrates exceptional leadership and ensures continuity as we move confidently into the future.

 

During his tenure as Executive Director, Roger Berg played a pivotal role in shaping the organization you so generously support today. Under his leadership, the organization strengthened its governance practices, expanded program impact, navigated periods of growth and change, and remained firmly anchored in its mission and values. His commitment to excellence, integrity, and service has left a legacy that will continue to influence our work for years to come.

 

The role of Director Emeritus is an honorary designation approved by the Board to recognize this enduring contribution. In this capacity, Roger will serve as an ambassador for the organization, offering historical insight, mentorship, and strategic counsel as appropriate, while no longer holding operational or management authority. This structure allows us to honour past leadership while maintaining clear governance and management boundaries aligned with nonprofit best practices.

 

At the same time, we are pleased to announce that Aretha Khaloo-Gulliver, currently serving as Director of Operations, has been appointed as our new Executive Director. This appointment follows a thoughtful and deliberate succession process led by the Board of Directors, with a strong emphasis on organizational stability, leadership continuity, and mission alignment.

 

Aretha brings a deep understanding of our organization, having served in senior operational leadership for over 6 years. In this role, she has overseen core operational functions, strengthened internal systems, supported staff development, and worked closely with both the Board and the Executive Director to advance strategic priorities. Her leadership has been marked by sound judgment, fiscal responsibility, collaborative engagement, and a clear commitment to our mission and those we serve.

 

The Board is confident that Aretha is exceptionally well prepared to lead the organization into its next chapter. This internal promotion ensures continuity, preserves institutional knowledge, and positions the organization to build upon its strong foundation while continuing to grow, adapt, and respond effectively to emerging needs.

 

To assist Aretha with her responsibilities as Executive Director we are also pleased to announce that Marta Pineda has been appointed to the role of Director of Operations, Programs and Services and Ben Lee has been appointed to the role of Director of Marketing and Community Engagement.

 

We want to assure you, as valued donors and partners, that this leadership transition does not alter our mission, strategic direction, or stewardship commitments. Our programs, services, and accountability practices remain strong, and the Board continues to provide active oversight to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability and impact.

 

Your generosity has played a vital role in enabling our work and in supporting the leadership and staff who carry it forward each day. We are deeply grateful for your trust and partnership, and we look forward to continuing this journey together under renewed leadership.
